Petition effort underway; 7,500 signatures needed to qualify for Nov. ballot
MILFORD, CT – Marisa Manley, independent (unaffiliated) candidate for Governor of Connecticut, has chosen Rick Varrone from Milford, as her Lt. Governor running mate. Over the past weekend, the Manley/Varrone campaign began circulating petitions to obtain 7,500 signatures in order to qualify for the November ballot. The deadline for submitting the petitions is August 6.
Rick Varrone, a lifelong Milford resident, is a former candidate for State Representative for the 118th House District. He served one term on the Milford Planning and Zoning Board.
He is a small business owner, community volunteer, and as a 5th degree black belt, has been a master instructor of martial arts to local law enforcement agents.
Rick has designed, implemented, and managed IT operations for local and global businesses. He is an active community organizer and volunteer, successfully managing the campaign of State Representative Charles Ferraro 117th House District in the 2014 election.
Rick is an alumni of New England School of Theology, and is a member and lay leader at Christ Presbyterian Church in the Hill, an inner city church in New Haven.
For the past five decades, Rick has been a Martial Art student and teacher - 5th Degree Master Rank in 3 Korean Martial Arts, Sa Bom Nim – Master Instructor. He has facilitated and taught martial art programs for students in local grammar and high schools, developed programs for special needs kids and those with medical and physical challenges. Rick has proudly provided training to local law enforcement.
“Our campaign is focusing on the need to restructure Connecticut finances to prevent bankruptcy and restore a jobs-friendly, pro-growth regulatory environment which creates more opportunity for everyone,” Varrone said.
“We invite Republicans, Democrats, Independents and everyone who rejects the dysfunction of the status quo to join us to create real solutions for Connecticut’s toughest problems and give people a reason to stay,” Manley said.
Rick has been married to his wife Sharon for 39 years, they have 1 child, and 4 grandchildren. Rick is an avid golfer, musician, and acting enthusiast.
